Water Management services

Green roofs were resurrected by the Germans around 60 years ago, almost by accident.

They were attempting to collect and control rainwater on the roof of a large manufacturing building in the Rhine valley. The problem was that the water was very heavy and moved too quickly for the collection to be controlled. Because of this they applied a drainage / irrigation layer to the roof, a filter membrane and some growing medium. This had the desired effect, as the water was filtered by the fledgling green roof, it moved slowly towards the designed collection point.

It was further down the line that it was discovered that the temperature within the building was much cooler in the summer and marginally warmer in the winter. Also the waterproofing layer was protected from exposure to the natural elements which cause ultimate failure.

Green roofs play a massive part in reducing rainwater run-off and act as a perfect way of better balancing hard & soft landscaping scenarios in our urban development. But as technology moves on it is possible to reclaim this water and recycle it.

Using modern engineering, rainwater is stored and distributed to all non-potable applications inside and outside the building. In the event of water depletion within the system, water supply is maintained by switching to mains water automatically.
